Port City Popcorn
Port City Popcorn is targeting to be the leading provider of great tasting gourmet popcorn in the Wilmington NC area.
The brief was to design a new packaging that was based on three colours (red, white and yellow). The logo, with the company name needed to be visible on the packaging, and ideally have a rustic homemade feel.
Inspired by the red and white awning on Charles Cretor’s first popcorn machine, the lines in the designs were hand drawn and by creating variations of the lines, the design was given a modern twist.
The logo is bold and prominent on the container, making the product stand out from their competitors. The texture on the design has been created using corn husk, drawing back to the roots of popcorns, and ‘Port City’ sits between two rope designs to draw emphasis to the words.
Cloid H. Smith’s ‘Jolly Time’ popcorn in a can inspired us to use a different method of packing the product, other than a paper bag. The client wanted to be able to fill the packing with a variety of over 30 flavours of gourmet popcorn to sell at their store, as well as to ship out to their customers.
Like the product, there’s an element of fun and playfulness in the design. As seen on the business card, with popcorns spilling over a bucket and on the letterhead, where traces of popcorn is casually scattered over the page.
